Heat Wave

Our first term today is heat wave. 我们今天要学习的第一个词组是“ heat wave”（热浪）

Otherwise known as a prolonged period of time of extreme heat or这词意思是持续时间很长的极度炎热天气

Well, in my hometown there’s a place called Turpan我的家乡有个地方叫吐鲁番

and if you read the story ‘A Journey to the West’, the mountain of flame is there.不知道你看过《西游记》没，里面的“火焰山”就在那里

And on the ground it will be like sixty or even seventy.而地表温度可以达到60甚至70度

Nostalgia

Our second term today is very useful for people here in China我们今天要学习的第二个单词对于天朝滴盆友们非常有用

especially young people like you…..and me, and that term is nostalgia.特别是像你...还有我酱紫滴年轻人，这个单词就是“nostalgia”（怀旧）

Nostalgia is a deep affection or longing for a period in the past“Nostalgia”（怀旧）指的是对曾经的某段时间有着深厚的感情或思念

so if you used to be a fan of e-puppies, or tamagotchi pets...如果你以前养过电子狗狗，或电子宠物..

Or you mightlike to sit down and look at some episodes of还有你喜欢安静坐下来观看的电视节目

the classic, Black Cat Detective, which  in Chinese——黑猫警长.经典动画片——《黑猫警长》

DUDUDUdududu...黑猫警长!嘟嘟嘟...黑猫警长！

Or, if you’re really fond of classic video games like Super Mario.或者你也真的喜欢《超级玛丽》这样的经典电子游戏

Then you can say you are feeling nostalgic,你就可以说自己有些怀旧了

because all those things remind you of a time when the world was a better, warmer, fuzzier, fluffier place.因为所有这些东东都让你回想起那些曾经更加美好、温暖、懵懂、无知年代

to be scared witless./to have wits about me

Alright, so we have two sentences here….the first one is to be scared witless.哦，那现在我们学习了两个句子了...第一个是“ to be scared witless”（吓得心惊胆战）

Another one is to have wits about me. So, what are the differences, why?另一个是“to have wits about me”（随机应变），那么这两个句子有啥区别？

Okay, so, wit or wits means the capacity for quick thinking, quick understanding.“wit”或者“wits”的意思是拥有快速思考和理解的能力

So if you see something happen on the road and you know immediately what to do,比如你在路上看到有什么事情发生了，你立即就知道该怎么做

you can say that that person has their wits about them.你可以说“ person has their wits about them”（这人能随机应变变）

And if you’re on the road, and you don’t know what to do when you see this thing happen如果你在路上看到有事发生时，你不知道该怎么去做

you’re so scared you can’t even talk, it means you’re witless你吓得说不出话来，这意味着“you’re witless”（你一头雾水）

you don’t have any wits means you can’t do anything.“you don’t have any wits ”意味着你什么都做不了

So if someone is so scared that and has no idea or couldn’t understand what’s going on,所以，如果有人十分害怕，以至于不知道或无法理解所发生的事情

we can say that that guy is scared shitless, I am sorry, witless.我们可以说“that guy is scared shitless”（那人被吓屎了），不好意思，是“witless”
