【CRAMMING】

Ali:

Well cramming means that when you wait till the very last minute to prepare or to study or to get ready for anything“Cramming ”的意思就是，到最后一刻才开始学习或为考试做准备

and I think that if you're a college student you know what I mean here.我觉得高校学生很容易就明白我说的是什么

And cramming is usually considered to be something really bad.而且这个词通常具有比较浓重的贬义色彩

Stu:

But it’s not always bad.不过也不是总那么糟糕啦

You can do it properly as well as properly studying.你也可以用恰当的方法达到比较好的学习效果

For example you can take a lot of flash cards.比如可以用“闪卡”来帮助学习

So it’s a good….have you ever crammed Ali?所以说也算是个好办法吧，艾力，你以前临时抱过佛脚没？

Ali:

I’m afraid all the time我一直都是这样的

and I believe that it’s the same thing for all the college students here.而且我觉得我不是一个人在战斗，几乎所有大学生都和我站在一条战线上

Because, well, here's the joke for us that we always say that we have to review for the exam the next day我们以前总是开玩笑，说明天就要考试了，赶紧复习吧

but usually we not only do the review but we do the preview because we study nothing at all before the exam但名义上说是“复习” 实则是在“预习”，因为我们平时一点都不学习

and it’s really, really bad.这真的挺不好的

Stu:

That means when you get asked a question that’s so hard, you can’t even begin to answer it and you would say, “I’m stumped”意思是 如果你碰上了一个巨难的问题，让你无从下手，你可以说“I’m stumped”（我被难住了）

Ali:

And now the exam Gao Kao is very stressful, and if you fail the exam, well there is a lot of pressure on you and your parents.高考确实是压力山大，如果考试失利，你和你父母都会面对很大的压力

And I think you as a Chinese student know that pretty much.我觉得即将参加高考的学子们都明白这点

But is this the same case in Britain?话说英国也是这样吗？

 Stu:

But anyway about the exams they are probably not as stressful as the Gao Kao.英国的入学考试可能不像高考压力这么大

So, it’s a university entrance examination. In Britain we have something called A-levels.在英国，我们那边的大学入学考试称作“A-levels”

Now when you’re 16 you have to choose which A-levels you want to do.所有年满16岁的学生都可以选择自己要参加的A-level考试

You usually choose three or four. I chose three. It was easier.通常可以选三到四门，我当时选了三门，相对简单

Ali:

Indeed. We all know all that. That’s why we have so much homework.说到我们心坎里去了，所以我们这里的作业负担超级重
